A free celebration of the Town of Monaghan Co-Op takes place at the Four Seasons Hotel, Monaghan, this evening, Wednesday 4 November, with doors opening at 7:30pm.
The co-op was founded in 1901 and closed in April 2025, after 124 years in business. Organiser and author Joe Leonard, who managed the co-op from 2004 to 2018, told Agriland it is "an opportunity for old co-op workmates to catch up" and a chance for milk suppliers to meet the staff who processed their milk one more time.
Agriland reports that the co-op's headquarters was at Coolshannagh for 70 years, and on Dawson Street for the 53 years before that. Mr Leonard says former employees, milk suppliers, retailers and consumers are all welcome, and a donation box for local charities will be at the door.
Northern Sound says a very enjoyable night is planned, with all welcome, and that Mr Leonard sees it as a chance to "pause, reflect and remember".
