Scotstown are Monaghan senior football champions for the fourth year in a row. David McCague's side beat north Monaghan neighbours Truagh (Gaeil Triucha) 1-22 to 0-10 in the Greenfield Foods Senior Football Championship final at St Tiernach's Park, Clones, on Sunday 18 October.

It is Scotstown's 25th county senior title. Goalkeeper and captain Rory Beggan scored 0-8, including four two-point frees, and lifted the Mick Duffy Cup, RTÉ Sport reported.

How the final was won

Scotstown kicked eight two-pointers in all. Conor McCarthy and Kieran Hughes landed two-pointers with the first two scores of the game, and Max Maguire, named Man of the Match in GAA.ie's report, added two more from long range.

Ryan O'Toole scored the only goal on 22 minutes, finishing a Tommy Mallen pass. Scotstown led 1-9 to 0-7 at half-time after Seán O'Connell kicked a Truagh two-pointer on the stroke of the break.

Truagh were still within four points around the 40-minute mark after scores from Ronan Boyle and a Luke H McKenna two-pointer. They did not score again. Scotstown finished with an unanswered 0-11, according to RTÉ and GAA.ie.

Truagh missed a first-half goal chance when Louis Kelly's shot went straight at Beggan, the Anglo-Celt reported. Scotstown's Mark McCaffrey was black-carded in the 49th minute, BBC Sport said.

Scorers

The referee was Diarmuid Boylan (Donaghmoyne). BBC Sport's report gave a different final score of 1-18 to 0-10; the match reports from RTÉ, GAA.ie and Monaghan GAA's official results all record 1-22 to 0-10.
