Four County Monaghan schools have been approved for funding under the 2027 Climate Action Summer Works Scheme, the Anglo-Celt reports.
The Monaghan schools are St Mary's BNS, Scoil Mhuire, St Louis Secondary School and Inver College. Three Cavan schools are also on the list for the constituency: Ballyhaise NS, St Clare's College and St Bricín's College.
About the scheme
Minister for Education and Youth Hildegarde Naughton announced €80 million for 229 projects across 26 counties, the Connacht Tribune reports. That is an average of nearly €350,000 per project.
The scheme, formerly the Summer Works Scheme, helps schools address building condition needs while improving energy efficiency, cutting carbon emissions and lowering running costs. LMFM reports that this can include new windows and doors, insulation, modern heating systems and LED lighting.
This is the second tranche of approvals from applications submitted in 2025. Works are scheduled to take place mainly during summer 2027.
Schools not approved this time remain eligible for future rounds. The next tranche is expected to be announced in late 2027.
Deputy Brendan Smith (FF) told the Anglo-Celt that projects were assessed and prioritised based on the «individual needs of schools» and the «urgency of the works required». The individual allocations for the Monaghan schools were not given.
