Twelve properties were available to rent in County Monaghan on Daft.ie this week, with another 25 in Cavan, according to Northern Sound, a noticeable increase on the end of August when the combined total for the two counties was in single digits.
Northern Sound reported on Thursday, 22 October, that 2,862 properties were listed to rent nationally on the website. Across the two local counties, asking rents ranged from €875 a month for a one-bedroom apartment in Kingscourt to €1,950 a month for a five-bedroom detached house in Cavan town.
What is listed in Monaghan
When Monaghan Brief checked Daft.ie's County Monaghan rental page on Thursday afternoon, it showed 10 properties, a figure that changes as homes are let and new ones are added. Listings included:
a three-bed, one-bath apartment at Latton, Ballybay, at €975 a month;
a two-bed apartment on Main Street, Ballybay, at €1,500 a month;
a six-bed, two-bath house at Coolshannagh View, Monaghan town, at €1,800 a month;
a three-bed house in Inniskeen at €1,000 a month and a one-bed apartment in Inniskeen at €700 a month;
a two-bed apartment at Mullanarockan, Tedavnet, at €700 a month;
one-bed studios at Tyholland (€220 a week) and Laragh, Castleblayney (€150 a week).
One Carrickmacross listing carried an obviously placeholder price and is not included above.
Why it matters
Rental supply in Cavan and Monaghan has been extremely tight. Northern Sound noted that Daft.ie listings for the two counties together were in single digits at the end of August, so the current figure, while still small, is several times higher. Anyone searching should check the live listings on Daft.ie, as availability changes daily.
