The strike-delayed 2026 BISS and CRISS advance payments began issuing on Thursday, 22 October, and the Department of Agriculture's county breakdown shows 3,573 Monaghan farmers being paid €12,771,956.54.

Nationally, Minister Martin Heydon said the advances are worth more than €551 million to 110,089 farmers, paid at an increased advance rate of 75% for 2026. He said 94% of cleared cases were paid on the first day, above the Farmers' Charter commitment of 90%.

"I appreciate that the delay of six days has been a concern," the Minister said. The payments had been due on 16 October but were held up by the public sector strike on 14 October. The Anglo-Celt noted they still went out five days before the fall-back date the Department had set.

How Monaghan compares

The averages are Monaghan Brief's calculation from the Department's table. The Department's figures give Cavan 4,352 farmers; the Anglo-Celt report gives 4,252. The lower averages reflect Monaghan's smaller holdings, which CRISS is designed to favour by redistributing money from larger farms to small and medium ones.

If your payment hasn't arrived

The Department said payments will be visible in bank accounts in the coming days and remaining cases will be processed as they meet the scheme criteria. The Minister urged farmers with outstanding documentation requests to respond quickly. Queries go to the Direct Payments Helpdesk on 057 8674422 or online through MyAgfood.ie.
