Saturday morning in Monaghan Town will belong to repair, reuse and sharing: the county's flagship Climate Action Week event, the Circular Economy in Action Conference, takes place at the Monaghan Peace Campus from 9:30am to 1pm.
Monaghan County Council is organising the free morning as part of Climate Action Week 2026 (12–18 October), under the theme "Act Local: Rethink, Repair, Reuse". The council's conference page and Eventbrite listing both say admission is free but registration is essential. Funding comes through the Decarbonising Zone Demonstrator Fund, supported by the Government of Ireland.
Who is on the bill
The Anglo-Celt's September preview named a mix of local and national speakers: Circular.ie, The Wheel, Monaghan Integrated Development, Carrickmacross Toy Library, Circular Dress Collaborative, and Monaghan's Genesis Coffee Shop. Eventbrite lists the same cast by name — Eibhlín Fitzpatrick (Circular.ie), Killian Cawley (Monaghan Integrated Development), Jill Kennon (Carrickmacross Toy Library), Sheila Clancy O'Donnell (Circular Dress Collaborative), Kevin McGuire (Genesis Coffee Shop) and Emma Murtagh (The Wheel).
Two of those speakers, Kevin McGuire and Sheila Clancy O'Donnell, have been shortlisted for the 2026 Full Circle Awards, which recognise circular-economy work across Ireland, the Anglo-Celt reported. BBC News NI agriculture and environment correspondent Louise Cullen is due to host the morning.
Alongside the talks, a Circular Economy Ideas Hub will stay open through the event so visitors can meet exhibitors, community groups and social enterprises working on repair, reuse and sharing.
Part of a busy week across the county
Climate Action Week has already put more than 40 events on the county calendar, from workshops and biodiversity projects to repair and upcycling sessions. Cathaoirleach Cllr Aidan Campbell said the week "showcases the very best of community spirit and local leadership" and encouraged people of all ages to support events near them. Chief Executive Robert Burns said the programme helps deliver the objectives in the council's Climate Action Plan and that "achieving our climate goals requires collective action".
Carrickmacross Toy Library, which appears on Saturday's speaker list, was also picked out by RTÉ Lifestyle this week for a children's play session with sustainably sourced toys during the national Climate Action Week round-up — a local example of the circular idea the conference is trying to spread.
How to go
The Peace Campus is on Plantation Road, Monaghan (H18 RP20). Doors for the conference are listed from 9:30am, with the morning due to finish at 1pm. Places are free; book through the council's Climate Action pages or the Eventbrite listing before you travel, because the organisers say registration is required. The full Climate Action Week timetable remains on monaghan.ie for anyone looking for other events still running through Sunday.
